Why would we use Kanopy when we can order our own DVDs?
Kanopy not only offers competitively priced educational DVDs, but manages the entire ordering process on behalf of the Institution, making DVD ordering straight-forward and cost-effective for Librarians. To accommodate the varied academic requirements, Kanopy has developed a flexible, tailor-made service to match the needs of each institution, with the ultimate objective of offering a personalised DVD collection management service.
How many films do you currently have in your collection?
We currently offer over 15,000 films as part of our ever-expanding collection, featured on www.kanopy.com.au. We have a team dedicated to identifying new films and suppliers to build on the vast collection of films that we offer to the Australian Tertiary Education Market. We have partnerships with the major international film suppliers through to small producer agreements. In some cases, there are advertising restrictions placed on the territory, so although we can’t market certain films, we have negotiated approval to sell them to our customer base.
How do we start utilising the Kanopy Search Service?
You can send us your DVD request in any format that easiest for you – phone, fax or email (see our contacts page for contact details). We respond promptly with availability and pricing information. Of course, you are not obliged to order the requested title from us – until we receive your confirmation, we will not proceed with placing the order.
How are your prices so competitive?
Kanopy has strong partnerships with nearly all international and local suppliers, securing good prices and cost savings with our bulk orders. We have a freight forwarder in the US that consolidates our orders into a cost-efficient weekly shipment to Australia, and we have banking facilities in the US, UK and Europe that allows us to offer films at competitive prices by almost eradicating any foreign currency conversion fees. We price all DVDs in Australian dollars according to a set formula, so any savings we receive in terms of bulk discounts or exchange rate fluctations are automatically passed onto you.
What is the difference between the advertise "DVD Price" and "TAFE Price" that are available on many products?
The "DVD Price" is the University price. All University orders are obliged to purchase at this price.
In many instances, the rights owners offer a reduced price for TAFEs in which case TAFEs may purchase the program at the advertised "TAFE Price" by clicking on the "Add to Cart" button beside the TAFE price.
If there is no TAFE price listed, TAFEs are also required to purchase the DVD at the "DVD Price".
Can anyone purchase films from Kanopy?
Kanopy is committed to servicing the Australian Tertiary Education market, so regrettably we cannot accept orders from other customer segments. We have strong partnerships with suppliers that do specialise in other markets, so of course we are happy to refer you to these partners.
Can I please have a copy of your latest catalogue sent to me? I would also like to receive your e-marketing alerts.
Every Tertiary Library in Australia should receive copies of all relevant catalogues we print. Please email us if you haven’t received copies so we can include you on our distribution list.
We also send out weekly e-marketing alerts, so please contact us if you would like to be added to our distribution list. To ensure you only receive relevant communication, we will ask you to specify your areas of interest, so you will only receive emails for relevant product.

How do we pay?
All invoices will be received on delivery. Payment terms are 30 days from date of invoice and we prefer EFT or cheque payments.
What is the difference between Region codes?
Region 0 means the DVD can be played anywhere in the world. All Australian DVD players are coded Region 4, so any DVD that is Region 0 or 4 will play in all Australian DVD players.
Most new DVD players are coded Region 0.
What is the difference between NTSC and PAL formats?
PAL is an encoding system used by most of the world except Northern America, which uses NTSC. Most new DVD players should play both NTSC and PAL encoded DVDs.
What is a VCD?
A VCD is a "Video Compact Disc" and plays on most modern DVD players. We only offer VCD format for programs that are unavailable in DVD.
The home page appears slightly unformatted. Is there a way to correct this?
If your computer is programmed to a larger font size, there’s a chance the Kanopy homepage may appear slightly unformatted. In order to correct this, we suggest you decrease your font size slightly using “Ctrl” and “-” simultaneously on your keyboard. If you would prefer to increase your font size, you simply reverse the process using “Ctrl” and “+”on your keyboard.
